Hypothesis

Terms of Use

Last updated 24 August 2026

By using Hypothesis you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What Hypothesis is

A place to ask questions and see how people answer them. Anyone with an account can publish a question. Anyone can answer.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour

This is the important part. When you publish a question, you are responsible for it. You must not post content that is:

What we do about it

We aim to act on reports within 24 hours.

Answering

You may answer each question once. Answers cannot be edited or withdrawn — that is what makes the totals worth reading. Do not attempt to answer more than once, or to manipulate results through multiple accounts or automated means.

Your content

You keep ownership of the questions you write. You give us permission to store them, show them to other people in the app, and include them in the totals, for as long as they are published.

If you delete your account, your published questions stay up with your name removed, so that people who answered them do not lose their answers. If you want a specific question taken down entirely, ask us.

Accounts

You need an account to publish. You must be at least 13 years old. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.

What we do not promise

Hypothesis is provided as it is. Answers come from members of the public, are not a representative sample, and are not research. Do not rely on them for anything that matters. We do not guarantee the app will be available or error-free, and we are not liable for any loss arising from using it, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Ending it

You can delete your account in the app at any time. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms.

Changes

If these terms change materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
